New Zealand Volunteer Service Medal was awarded to Private Thomas Sellwood in 1909 for 12 years service.
Obverse: The head profile of King Edward VII (1901-1910) surrounded by the words "*NEW ZEALAND VOLUNTEER *12 YEARS SERVICE MEDAL*"
Reverse: A picture of a Kiwi with its beak towards the ground. The kiwi is surrounded by a wreath with a ribbon bow below.
The edge of the medal reads "NO142 PTE.T.SELLWOOD,SOUTH CANTY MTD RIFLE VOLS (1909)".
The silk grosgrain ribbon is coloured khaki. A Metal loop attaches the medal to the cotton ribbon.
