Object Name Auger
Description Metal drill with long twisted corkscrew like shaft and wooden handle threaded through at right angles at the top. Used to drill hole in tree stumps so that they could be blown out after explosive inserted. Drill has number 1 1/12 etched onto its side above the screw.

The metal shaft shows evidence of having been hammered down - it has a slightly beaten lip at the top. It is hollow at the opposite, pointed end, with a vent hole half way down its side.
