Object Name Bodice
Description Cream silk moire bodice with short puffed sleeves, lace at neck which laces up the back

NECK has wide off the shoulder neckline which is edged all round with scalloped edge lace. Lace looks as if made from linen or cotton and could be hand made. A fine thread has been threaded through the lace to draw it in.

FRONT is of the cream silk grosgrain with watered moire effect. It has a seam centre front leading into a deep point. There are 2 vertical waist darts each side.

BACK of the cream silk moire has centre back opening which has brass hook/eye at neck then laces up with hand stitched eyelet holes and cream silk ribbon with brass ends to make threading easier. Back has princess shaped seam into armhole.

SLEEVE is small puff with ruched silk moire. The seam is piped at the shoulder and the edge is also piped where lace same as the neck is stitched at hem. Sleeve is 105mm long and 300mm in circumference at hem.

CONSTRUCTION all hand sewn. The bodice is lined with starched white cotton. Both of the vertical waist darts each side of the front are bones as are the side seams, the centre front, and both sides of the centre back - a total of 9. Boning is in the seams or in a cream cotton twill tape casing - at centre front, and the side seams.

There is a thin silk ribbon inner waistband fastened with a single steel (rusty) hook/eye.
