Dark green bakelite telephone with a black base that sits on table. The face of the phone has a round cream bakelite ring with the numbers "0" to "9" printed in black. Inside this is a thin metal disc also with the numbers "0" to "9" printed in black, covered by clear plastic. A thicker clear plastic disc on top with holes corresponding to where the numbers are for dialing the required digits of the telephone number. A small piece of metal stops the finger from dialing each digit too far around. A paper label in the centre, printed with "Timaru", "Tu - ", "Std Code 056" and "Emergency 111", typed beside the "Tu" is " 80 358". Handwritten in pen is "from 11-30pm Fri 24-8-90", "68" added before the telephone number and the "056" crossed out and replaced with "03".
The handset of ear and mouth piece sits across the top of the telephone and is connected to the phone by dark green cord. There is also a dark green cord at the back of the phone to connect to the outside wires. On the base is white stamp that is difficult to read "Made In England By [.............] Electric Co Ltd Of England". Also on base is sticker which reads "NZPO Wkshp Timaru", "Overhauled/Repaired", "By 40. Date 24/2/823", "Test By......, / / ", "Engr 26". Four round rubber feet on the base for sitting on the table.
In a separate bag is what could be a phone jack for attaching to the wall and three screws.
