Three early Timaru Harbour images, circa 1882 to 1892, mounted on a double-sided card support. The images depict: - Recto: (a) The Timaru breakwater and No.1 wharf, circa 1882 to 1883. Note the crane at the end of the breakwater as it's construction is still underway. Several unidentified ships can be seen within the harbour and the locomotive on the wharf is an A Class (0-4-0-T); - Verso: (b) A William Ferrier print showing waves breaking over the end of the breakwater in a heavy sea, dated 1890; (c) Another Ferrier print of heavy swells breaking on the shore at Timaru, dated 1892. |
