Description |
Banner from the Country Women's Institute, Washdyke, South Canterbury, circa 1950. The banner is made of royal blue cotton with a red satin fringe along the bottom edge. The banner is embroidered with "Washdyke CWI" in red cotton. Above the words is an oval logo with the words "For Home and Country" and decorated with a red flower, leaves, and a green fern. A shield featuring three black sailing ships, the Southern Cross, wheat, and a sheep is embroidered at the bottom of the banner. The top of the banner encases a wooden rod with a red cord attached to both ends for hanging. A small oval badge is pinned to the banner. The oval depicts the club logo and hangs beneath a red bar which reads "Long Service." The back of the badge is engraved with "Mrs E J James Foundation Member". |
