An undated temperance petition from women, primarily from Albury, petitioning their local Member of Parliament, Thomas Burnett to press for the elimination of the "present licensing ballot-paper.." and support national prohibition. Likely to be related to the 1919 licensing referendum, or the temperance movement in the 1920s. Comprised of two sheets, each with a typed upper portion, with spaces left for the addition of the name of the M.P. and Electorate. The lower portion left space for the names and addresses of the petitioners. The second sheet has been cut off below the only name on it. The first sheet, all signed by women of Albury, bears the names of: - Mary Young Smillie; - Ellen Gwennie Gainsford; - Ann E Keddell; - Alice M Alexander; - Jessie Donaldson; - Elizabeth [Tida?] Smith; - Mary Elizabeth Smyth; - Fanny [?] McCort; - Amy Rita Johnson; - Frances Ellen Dale; - Margaret S Dale; - Ethel Emma Dale; - Annie Dale; - Clara A Dale; - Margaret Morrison; - Vera Frisken[?]; - E Andrews. The second sheet was signed by: - Isabella Grace Archibald of Allendale, Fairlie. |
