Three account books belonging to James and/or William Parr, covering 1854 to 1885. Two of the account books are cream coloured Bank of New Zealand book sof a folding wallet style. The other is a small hard-bound ledger with a metal clasp. Each covering the following dates: - James (?) Parr, 1854-1967 (Hardcover book, spine title "Ledger"); - 5 to 30 September 1868 (BNZ book labelled "Messrs W & J Parr, the Wind Mill, 1870"); - 12 March 1877 to 18 March 1885 (BNZ book labelled "Mr James Parr, Timaru"). James Parr (a builder) came to New Zealand (with his brother William (a flourmiller), and sister Mary Parr, later Mrs French), in 1858, He landed initially at Dunedin, before moving on to Christchurch in early 1859, then coming to Timaru in late 1859 to build his own home. |
