  5. Unidentified soldier, World War One

An unidentified World War One era soldier, sergeant of the 2nd (South Canterbury) Company, Canterbury Infantry Battalion, circa 1916. It seems likely that this is William Roy Davison of Abury, a NCO with C (Canterbury) company, 25th Infantry reinforcements. The sergeant appears to be wearing standard 1912 pattern jacket and S-Belt, holding a bullet-topped drill cane, popular with senior NCOs.
