A photographic album entitled 'New Zealand Views', comprised of albumen prints that appear to date from around 1875. The album consists of the following images (listed in appearance order). All quoted text was found written in pencil near the print unless otherwise specified. #1 - "Haldon". An informal portrait of several people and dogs with the homestead in the background. "G J Denniston shaking hands" (with a dog!) #2 - "Haldon". Depicts several farm buildings and paddocks. #3 - An unidentified view of three buildings in a rural setting. #4 - View of Farmhouse with man and woman sitting on porch. #5 - Unidentified view of bush with a mountain background. #6 - Unidentified view of a lake with a mountain background. #7 - View of flats and bush (Described as "Bush up Tasman"). #8 - Map described as "Original by E.Norman" with a separate key/table labelled as "Bird's eye view of the Mackenzie Country showing the position of all the stations 1872". Various mountains, rivers and lakes are also identified. #9 - Unidentified view of bush with mountain background. #10 - Unidentified small wooden church [St Patrick's Church, Burkes Pass]. #11 - Unidentified hilly bush area,mountains in background. #12 - Unidentified large two-storey building [Burkes Pass Hotel] with four doors and several men and boys outside. #13 - View of 16 men, two ladies, horses and tents described as "Camp by Governor's Bush -described in Haldon Diary. Figures marked Denniston Album". #14 - Man and dog on plain, with buildings in middle ground and high ground in background. #15 - Duplicate of #3 #16 - "Haldon" homestead -"G.J.Denniston". #17 - Unidentified view of hill with mountain background. #18 - Small house in foreground with a farm building in the background. #19 - Group of six people standing in bush area with waterfall to one side. #20 - Farm Building and sheds with house in background. Two men and sheepdogs herding sheep in a sheepyard. #21 - Group of men, children and horses in front of building with a sign "Twinter Shoeing and General Smith" #22 - "Three Springs?". Depicts a farm building and a man skinning an animal. #23 - "J T Wallace partner of G J Denniston w Cunningham Smith in Haldon". Depicts grave of J T Wallace in Timaru cemetery-grave is a raised one with a concrete anchor on it. #24 - "Son? FJ Mrs Kimbell Son? Three Springs". Depicts the Three Springs Homestead with four people in front. #25 - "Camping at Governor's Bush. This party is named in Denniston Album." Same group of people as #13 having a meal in front of tents. #26 - Upper left and lower right photographs have been removed. The upper right photo shows a man with sheep and the lower left photo shows two men and a woman in a bush setting. #27 - Two photographs, "Tasman Downs". The first one is labelled "Melville Gray pick-a-back" and depicts a group of people picnicking? The second photo shows two men and a dog in a bush setting. #28 - "Ashwich Homestead" depicts the house. #29 - "Sherwood Downs from upstairs looking to Melville Downs". #30 - "Three Springs". The Homestead appears in the distant background. #31 - Rural view, possibly Three Springs? #32 - "F.J. Kimbell", "Three Springs". Depicts the Three Springs homestead with people outside. #33 - Two photographs. The first one depicts a lake(?) with two men and a rowboat. The second one is of a lake/fjord with a mountain background. #34 - Two photographs both depicting unidentified lakes #35 - Two photographs both depicting unidentified lakes #36 - Two photographs both depicting lake and bush settings #37 - Two photographs (non-local). the first one depicts a steamship with a group of people on a beach in the foreground.
