Photographic album presented to Thomas Thomson (of T&J Thomson, Timaru) by his employees in commemoration of coronation festivities for King George V in Timaru, June 1911. Comprised of a leather-reinforced album. The pictures within are of the parade and portraits of staff in their procession costume, designed to represent the British Empire. The images are generally placed on the right pages of the album, sometimes with annotations below the print or on the left (facing) page. Images appear in the following order: - #1 (a&b) - Two prints showing the T & J Thomson floral floats entitled: (a) "Preparing for the coronation procession at Mr T Thomsons Timaru" and (b) "Timaru in honour of the coronation June 22 1911" (both by William Ferrier); - #2 - Staff portraits (x2) - AM Rooney representing Canada; and F Pimander[?] in Maori costume; - #3 - Staff portraits (x2) - M Robinson and J Allan; - #4 - Staff portraits (x2) - W Hodge and N Clarkson; - #5 - A group of young women, named on the opposite page (not necessarily in the order pictured): K O'Brien, M Kane, A J Baird, Nina Stephenson, S Thomson, M Shea, B Groves, A Parks, E Stevens, L Campbell, Teresa O'Brien, A Cronin, and E Drake; - #6 - Staff portraits (x2) - M McAteer and J W Sutherland; - #7 - Staff portraits (x2) - W Davie and W Auld; - #8 - A group of women, named on the opposite page (not necessarily in the order pictured): M Knowles, M Davie, F Knowles, M Brien, C Groves, and W Coe; - #9 - Staff portraits (x2) - E Evans and M McWilliams; - #10 - Staff portraits (x2) - S Parks and M Auld; - #11 - A group, largely of young women, named on the opposite page (not necessarily in the order pictured): V Waugh, J Gibb, B Arras, E Davey, L Arras, and J Davie; - #12 - Staff portraits (x2) - M Boothroyd and C Gleen[?]; - #13 - Staff portraits (x2) - M Foord and S Gibson (pictured on a donkey in the street); - #14 - Staff portrait - H Yardley - #15 - Two prints showing other floats in the Coronation Procession (by William Ferrier); - #16 (a&b) - Two prints showing (respectively) the Post Office decorated for the procession, and the Coronation Arch built on Stafford Street. Adjacent to the latter is "CE Wilson" - possibly indicating the man on the horse and gig under the arch is Wilson? - #17 - Two prints showing the procession at the north end of the "West Belt" (now Craigie Avenue. The front of the Basilica, still under construction, can be seen in both prints' - #18 - A larger print of one of the procession floats, and a man on horseback. "EA Drake" appears below the print, possibly the man on horseback? - #19 - A closer view of the Coronation Arch in Stafford Street; - #20 - Staff portraits (x2) - J Wakefield and S Heyworth - #21 - A newspaper clipping describing the trade portion of the Coronation Parade, including the contributed of Thomsons. |
