Photographic album presented to Thomas Thomson (of T&J Thomson, Timaru) by his employees in commemoration of coronation festivities for King George V in Timaru, June 1911. Comprised of a leather-reinforced album. The pictures within are of the parade and portraits of staff in their procession costume, designed to represent the British Empire. The images are generally placed on the right pages of the album, sometimes with annotations below the print or on the left (facing) page. Adjacent to the latter is "CE Wilson" - possibly indicating the man on the horse and gig under the arch is Wilson? - #17 - Two prints showing the procession at the north end of the "West Belt" (now Craigie Avenue. The front of the Basilica, still under construction, can be seen in both prints' - #18 - A larger print of one of the procession floats, and a man on horseback. "EA Drake" appears below the print, possibly the man on horseback? - #19 - A closer view of the Coronation Arch in Stafford Street; - #20 - Staff portraits (x2) - J Wakefield and S Heyworth - #21 - A newspaper clipping describing the trade portion of the Coronation Parade, including the contributed of Thomsons. |
