"Album" : unidentified portraits |
Description |
An undated hard-covered photograph album of carte-de-visite sized portraits (and some cut-down photographic postcards), largely from the 1870s and 1880s plus some from as late as the early twentieth century. The album is comprised of pages with a mix of oval and rectangular cut-out sleeves for portraits to be inserted in to. Each cut-out slot is bordered by a decorative pattern of vegetation and or masonry, some coloured. Two of the portraits bear the name "Jean Keen" or "Jean M Keen" on the verso (neither is likely to be her, as one is of a man). The photographs are taken by a variety of artists, primarily from New Zealand, and include some from local photographers William Ferrier, Rudolph Haigh, and Adolph Fischer |
