Caroline Bay and Harbour, Timaru, N.Z. [Arthur A Ware series] |
Description |
A postcard featuring an image of Caroline Bay and the harbour at Timaru, circa 1910. Taken from the clay cliffs at the back of the Bay Tearooms, looking south-east towards the Gibson Steps (right), rotunda, and the harbour (background). Crowds of people can be seen around the rotunda and in small groups across the beach. Bears a standard divided verso, which bears a personal message that reads: "Dear Jennie, received your P.C. saying that you had changed your place of abode, and I hope that you are enjoying the change (not rest). Marjorie must be thinking a little letter towards me now, when she condescends to ask after me, tell her 'I'm keeping quite well, thanks'. We have been having rather an anxious time of it this week, as our father has gone into the Timaru Hospital, to undergo what may be a very serious operation. It was supposed to take place Wed last and on Wed afternoon received a wire stating that the operation had been postponed, but up till now have not received any particulars. This may not reach you while you are in Beggars[?] St again, but I've chance[d] sending it to the Park Friday night. Regards to Mr & Mrs Smith & the baby. Hope that Miss[?] Smith like the looks." |
