    Men carrying a chimney on the Tasman Glacier, circa 1897 to 1898. A handwritten note on verso reads "Carrying things up to build the first Ball Hutt". The first Ball Hut was built in 1891, with a chimney and spouting being added in the 1897-1898 season. Most of the materials for the hut had to be carried in as only short pieces could be carried by pack horse.
